Amesbury Town 0–4 Andover Town

Andover Town comfortably won their penultimate league game of the season on a pitch that was not really conducive to quality football. Amesbury Town struggling to avoid relegation had their moments during the match but once Andover opened their account the final result was never in doubt.

Within four minutes Andover’s first positive attack led to Zach Glasspool laying the ball of to Mike Gosney whose powerful strike from the edge of the area easily found the back of the net.Twice good efforts by Gosney and Manney Soetan hit a post before Amesbury’s first opportunity was blazed over the bar. A minute later Jake Allan had an even better chance for the home side but this time it was Andover.s turn to be rescued by a post. Midway through the half Connor Cocklin suffered what appeared to be a leg injury and was replaced by McAulie Stubbs.This did not interrupt Andover’s rhythm and the second goal soon followed.Michael Hubbard pounced on to a loose ball twenty five yards out and sent in a volley that went into the net off the inside of a post. Amesbury then for a short spell enjoyed what was to be their best spell of the match before Hubbard set up Zach Glasspool to slot home the third goal on the stroke of half time.

If Amesbury were to have any impact on the game they needed a early second half goal. However that possibility quickly faded and Andover continued to ask all the questions. However Amesbury did defend well and opportunities for the visitors were less numerous.The best came just past the hour mark when following some excellent movement Reece Rusher had the ball whipped off his toes as he prepared the shot. With just over twenty minutes left Amesbury reached the point of no return as Andover scored their fourth. Following Gosney’s cross the goalkeeper could only ward off Rusher’s shot and before the keeper could recover Zach Glasspool fired in the rebound. By now the job was done but Luke Cairney was forced into a spectacular save to preserve the clean sheet.
