Andover Town3–1○Verwood Town

Andover Town secured a much needed three points to climb in to the top half of the table. After a mightily impressive performance against Bemerton in midweek which should have led to more than just a defeat, Andover came in to the game short of several key players. Kieran Diaz-Benitez and Adam Pattison were both suspended whilst skipper, Tom Pattison was unavailable. Joshua Bertie and Robbie Green were away on international duty whilst recent signing, David Jerrard, was called up by Gosport for their FA Cup tie.

In front of another decent turnout, the first 45 minutes lacked any sufficient quality. Whilst both sides attempted to play football, neither side particularly caused problems with Andover perhaps having more of the ball. Attempting to play football out from the back proved Andover’s downfall, Heggan intercepting a Tasker clearance and racing through to a lot home after 30 minutes. The home crowd grew a bit despondent perhaps recalling the unfortunate finishing in previous homes games that could, so easily, have seen andover beat both Fawley and Newport.

A much improved Andover dominated the second half. A slight tactical switch seeing Holmes swap with debutant Reuben Smith so that he played more centrally. After an hour, debutant Zach Neve, finally found the equaliser, slotting home from the edge of the box. A jubilant crowd were further rewarded when Zac Neve bagged his second nine minutes. The new hero finding space to slot home a cross from the right. Whilst previous games may have ended in a tense finale, Ruben Smith ensured the Portway faithful went home looking forward to their Saturday evening when he put the home side further in front two minutes later. Although not much happened of note in the last 15, no one was really concerned. Andover had secured a morale boosting three points and with the return of key players, came use this result as a building block heading in to next week's homes game against undefeated, U.S. Portsmouth.
